AAF Announces its Sixth Annual Affordable Art Fair

Featuring Contemporary Art in all Media for Under $10,000

Manhattan's Metropolitan Pavilion and Altman Building from June 14 -17, 2007

Manhattan's fun, relaxed Affordable Art Fair (AAF NYC '07) will be held at The Metropolitan Pavilion and the adjoining Altman Building, 125 West 18th Street, from June 14th through 17th, 2007. Helen Allen, the Executive Director, says, "The art market has been growing exponentially in recent years with an increasing number of people not only visiting museums but starting to collect art themselves. According to the Alliance of the Arts over 25 million people visited cultural events in New York City in 2005 more than twice that of Broadway shows or live sports events. We remain committed to featuring art that is truly affordable with all exhibited works priced from $100 - $10,000."

This year, more than one-third of the galleries exhibiting at AAF are from Australia, Canada, France, Mexico and the United Kingdom, making it a truly international fair. "We have an increasingly loyal visitor base and AAF has become a mainstay in the New York art market;" Allen continues, "What sets us apart is that we offer artworks for all levels of collectors." 75% of the artwork featured in each gallery's booth must be priced below $5,000, in keeping with the affordable spirit of the fair.

The Opening Night Event on Wednesday, June 13th from 6pm-9pm, will benefit the AIDS Community Research Initiative of America (ACRIA) and will include a silent auction of contemporary artworks, by artists such as Donald Sultan and Claes Oldenburg. The proceeds of the benefit will go to ACRIA and assist in their mission to improve the healthcare of people living with HIV/AIDS and contribute to reducing new HIV infections. ACRIA's reputation for selling incredible art at below market prices parallels AAF's commitment to making art collecting accessible.

Past lectures and educational events have proven to be very popular with the thousands of Fair attendees and AAF will again feature free public programming, including an educational lecture series hosted by The School of Visual Arts (SVA) that will include "First Steps: Beginning and Developing Your Collection" and "The Paper Chase: Collecting, Owning and Preserving Works on Paper." Young visitors will enjoy "Paper Flowers" and "Puppet Making," Children's Art Workshops organized in conjunction with the Children's Museum of the Arts (CMA). Sculpture and rubber mold making demonstrations with the Modern Art Foundry and printmaking demonstrations courtesy of the Lower East Side Printshop will also be available to visitors.

Last year, AAF had approximately 7,000 visitors and sales of more than $2 million. AAF continues to be the smart way to buy art and offers new collectors, designers, architects, young urban professionals and families the opportunity to discover the wonder of buying art.

The Affordable Art Fair launched in London in 1999 with great success and has since expanded to Sydney, Melbourne, Bristol and New York
