Nuit Blanche Events

September 26 - Sept 30, 2007

Gallery artist Dean Baldwin's MiNiBaR, which debuted at Mercer Union in June as part of the group show "Seducing Down the Door", has been renovated (a new tin roof!) and will set up shop outside of the main courtyard at Hart House for Nuit Blanche this Saturday, September 29th. The bar will be fully stocked with every combination of miniature cocktail possible available.

Gallery Artist Lisa Neighbour will also be at Hart House for "Night School" organized by Barbara Fischer in collaboration with Ann Macdonald, Tejpal Ajji, Day Milman and Maiko Tanaka. Twenty three light fixtures along the main routes to Hart House will be transformed by Lisa Neighbour into a row of torches, to signal the pathway for a procession or pilgrimage. The torches hark back to pictures of the traditional "clavie" or "cresset" which is a signal torch from historical times in the British Isles and Europe. Cobwebs made of light greet the visitors to the steps of Night School.

Hart House is located at the University of Toronto. Phone 416.978.8398 for more information.

Also gallery-affiliated artist Annie Macdonell will be presenting a new installation work at the School of Architecture and Design as part of the Bloor/Yorkville program, curated by Rhonda Corvese. The project, called The Aurora Readiness Centre, is a flashback to Cold War Toronto complete with films, sound, an entire bomb shelter and all kinds of other ephemera and objects that you can watch, touch, read and listen to. Some you can even take home with you.In celebration of the end of the Cold War and the bombs that never dropped, the bunker will also host three amazing, loud, and raucous performances:Rozasia plays @ 11pm Nif D @ 1am And Bush League @ 3am

At our Queen Street spaces we'll be offering video by Dean Baldwin and Seth Scriver, and will have Cecilia Berkovic's National Geographer and Stoner Chicks exhibition open -probably until midnight or later, depending on how crazy the crowds are. We will be offering free Stoner Chicks " I Love Life" posters to the public, so come and get them while you can.

We can't have a nighttime show without offering at least a sample of Tyler Clark Burke's Shimera exhibition, which was a highlight of last year's program. Her laser-etched glass sculptures will be on view, but you'll have to come inside to see them.
